Perspectives

Methodist / Wesleyan

Methodist and Wesleyan families contain real diversity. This study uses United Methodist doctrinal standards as a representative Wesleyan position and focuses on grace, responsible response, sanctification, and whether salvation can be abandoned.

Begin where the witnesses already meet.

Both affirm Scripture, salvation through Christ, grace preceding and enabling human response, meaningful personal responsibility, growth in holiness, and the danger of falling from grace.

How far does grace reach without removing individual responsibility?

Wesleyan theology provides important common ground against fatalism: grace acts first, yet a person must respond and remain. Call My G places that response within three earth ages and understands election through prior identity rather than an unexplained decree.

The foundation does not change with the audience.

Every comparison begins from the same declared convictions: the Bible is the controlling written witness; Jesus Christ is the Word made flesh, crucified, risen, and ascended; salvation is God’s gift through Christ; and His literal return follows the final counterfeit, sounds at the Seventh Trump, and opens the Millennium.

The wider three-earth-age framework is then presented as a cross-passage synthesis—not smuggled into the foundation as though one verse stated the whole picture.

Scripture, tradition, reason, and experience

Tradition, reason, and experience can illuminate the trail, but none may govern or close what the written witnesses reopen.

MARK 7:7-9, 13 - KJV 7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. 8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men... 9 ...Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition. 13 Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition... NOTE: Tradition is tested by whether it preserves or displaces God's word.

Prevenient grace and free will

Methodist / Wesleyan teaching

Human beings cannot turn to God by natural strength; grace precedes, awakens, and enables a genuinely responsible response.

God provides every soul a meaningful opportunity proportionate to its test. Grace makes response possible without turning God's children into puppets.

Falling from grace

Methodist / Wesleyan teaching

A believer may depart from grace and fall into sin, yet may repent and be restored by grace.

This closely matches the warning to maintain one's standing in flesh. Assurance never eliminates dependence upon grace or the need to remain awake.

Preexistence and election

Methodist / Wesleyan teaching

God knows and graciously calls people in this life; Methodism does not ordinarily teach conscious personal existence or prior conduct before conception.

KJV passages and notes

JOB 38:4, 7 - KJV 4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. 7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? NOTE: Personal witnesses are present when Earth's foundations are laid. Identifying those sons and stars with God's children before flesh is the larger synthesis.

Sanctification and the test

Methodist / Wesleyan teaching

Sanctifying grace continues shaping believers toward holiness of heart and life; faith produces visible love and good works.

Fruit matters because flesh life reveals allegiance. Works do not purchase salvation, but choices expose the person and whether truth has taken root.

This is a working comparison assembled from the tradition’s own published teaching. A knowledgeable insider is invited to correct any unfair summary. Correction strengthens the bridge by making Call My G answer the strongest accurate form of the other position.

The denominational descriptions are summaries. Call My G’s cross-passage positions remain identified as conclusions or foundational synthesis unless the cited passage states the proposition explicitly.

Official denominational pages are linked only so readers can verify that tradition’s position in its own words. Call My G does not endorse those sources as teaching authorities. Its affirmative study recommendations remain limited to Scripture, Shepherd’s Chapel, and selected Shepherd’s Chapel videos.
