Sincerity does not make contradictory claims simultaneously true. Heritage explains how a belief reached us; it does not settle whether the belief is true. The invitation is to respect people while testing every teaching—including this one—against Scripture and its foundation. Where Scripture supports it: Acts 17 praises hearers who checked Paul’s teaching against Scripture. 1 Thessalonians 5 commands testing all things, and Jesus warns that tradition can make God’s word ineffective. Why it matters: Respect for family explains how beliefs reached us; examination determines whether those beliefs reconcile with the written witnesses.
